Womens Running Race Series Nottingham

Despite a cloudy start, it was another warm day for the Women’s Running Race Series, this time taking place at Victoria Embankment in Nottingham, one of our longest-serving race venues. True to form, local women and their families came out in force to run in and support the race. The friendly field included big groups from Notts Women Runners and Grantham Running Club, as well as a contingent from Belton Woods Hotel who were all running for our National Charity Partner, NSPCC. The race was also supported by our Healthy Snack Partner, Good Full Stop; Healthy Blend Partner, Roots Collective; and Hydration Partner, Saka Water.

As the clouds started to break up, runners arrived at the village, where our Specialist Apparel Partner Boobydoo was once again on hand to offer advice on choosing the right sports bra – as well as a mini trampoline for women to check their bounce levels and try on new bras from Sportjock and Panache, just a couple of the huge range of brands stocked by Boobydoo. The race was supported by a band of brilliant volunteers, including our four pacers, and a team of marshals including one familiar face: October 2016 cover star Amanda Kimberly.

On stage, runners were treated to interviews with visually impaired runner Iris Peel, who talked about her experiences racing, and her guide Abigail, who explained how women interested in guiding can get involved. With 10 minutes to go, there was a short, sharp warm-up from a local women-only gym, Changes 30 Minute Gym, based in Bramcote.

Just after 10am, with the sun now fully blazing, the 5K and 10K runners were off on their loops of the park, with a long stretch along the riverbank where there were snatches of shade to keep cool. Hannah Birkin was first to cross the line, finishing the 5K in 22:02, with Michele Noble and Charlotte Jones in second and third place respectively. In the 10K, Natalie Hoffman put in a scorching performance to win in 41:58, with Steph Spencer 51 seconds behind and Angela McWilliam just over a minute back in third place.

“The heat sapped me at the end, but it was really good – loads of water breaks, loads of great marshals, really good fun,” said Sandra from Lincoln. “The atmosphere was really good because there was support all over.”
