Fiona and winners

On a hot and sultry day in Sefton Park, Liverpool women gathered to take on a fast and picturesque course that consisted of two laps around the perimeter of the leafy park.

The city was teaming with people in town to see the Giants, but the women runners proved to be giants for the day and put on a great show of their own with a number of groups and friends gathering together to sweat it out and run around the flat and fast course.

Women’s Running 10k Race Series history was made today, when Caroline Harlan-Marks, aged 35, from Birmingham raised the bar and broke the sub 40 barrier, running a super fast, 39.37.

Two sub 45s followed Caroline. Our runner-up was Helen Taylor from Peel who ran 44:37 and just 18 seconds behind her, claiming third place, was Kathryn Sharkey, who completed the course in 44.55. All three were presented with a bottle of bubbly, by Editor at Large, Fiona Bugler. We recommend they put it in the fridge and enjoy a celebratory drink tonight!

With a five minute gap between herself and Helen, winner Caroline battled it out alone with only her determination to see her smash through the sub 40 threshold. “It was very hot,” she said, “I’m so pleased to get back down under 40 minutes. I haven’t raced for ages and the last time I ran in Sefton Park was 10 years ago.”

A flat course, great organisation, great camaraderie – all in all in the ingredients for a #perfect race.

Remember, we still have three more events to offer, including 10K races in Bristol, Glasgow and London. Sign up now.

Well done to all our runners.

Here’s what you had to say about Liverpool…

‘Ran the 10K in Liverpool, what an amazing run. Well organised, the marshals were very encouraging, the welcome back to the finish line was so emotional and when you crossed the line you were made to feel special by having your name called out and the medal was put on you. The goody bag is fantastic. 1000 per cent would recommend the run to anyone.’ – Mary Hadley

‘I ran today, though it was really hot you kept us well hydrated with the amount of water stations. Well done on a very well organised race. Thank you.’ – Liz McGlynn

‘Great event. Great achivement for me and my friend. Thanks for a great day.’ – Melanie Bonds

‘Thanks for an event with such a great atmosphere! My first impression on hearing Maneater playing when I arrived was that it set the tone for a friendly and positive event.’ – Jess Clift

‘Thanks for a fantastic race. Loved it and beat my PB!’ – Catherine Derbyshire
