We find out all about ASICS most advanced performance shoe, the METASPEED Sky, and how even top athletes sometimes struggle to find the right shoe
Many of us will have had the realisation that we’ve been running in the wrong shoes. It might be obvious straight away, with poor form or pain, or it might be when we put on the right shoe that we suddenly notice the difference. Turns out, it’s not just us that have this problem.
ASICS has just shared some new research that found that many of the world’s elite runners may not be running in shoes designed for their individual style. The study demonstrates that having to adjust their running style to fit their shoes is having an impact on the ability of many elite athletes to reach peak performance.
They’ve shared this info in a short film, showing how they’ve been working behind-the-scenes with a number of elite long-distance runners – including America’s Sara Hall and Germany’s Katharina Steinruck – to create their most advanced new performance running shoes, specially optimized for their individual running style.
The human-centric design approach from ASICS sets out to help each of its athletes unlock their full potential – with the film revealing that, in Sara’s case, it was an early model of the shoes that helped power her to a dramatic second-placed finish at the 2020 London Marathon. The shoes in question? The METASPEED Sky, their most advance performance shoe yet.

The unique design story behind the new innovation is rooted in ASICS’ founding principle: help everyone achieve a sound mind in a sound body. ASICS knows that the more personalized its products and services, the more they can deliver the optimumbalance of performance and protection for every kind of athlete.
The shoes have just been released – and they’re a treat on the eyes as much as on the feet. We’ll be reviewing then soon to let you know what we think, and for more info in the mean time, visit asics.com.
