Inside the November issue of Women’s Running

Author: Holly Taylor

Take a closer look inside our latest issue...

This issue we’re demystifying running and the ageing process. That old chestnut about running ruining our knees as we get older is one of those myths we need to debunk right now. Running strengthens the muscles around your joints making them healthier and stronger. Running also prevents osteoporosis, and it helps manage the symptoms of menopause. It prevents the risk of heart disease, diabetes and cancer by up to 35%. And along with these physical miracles, the benefits to our mental health are massive, staving off depression, anxiety and stress. In this issue we look at all the superpowers running gives us, whether we’re 40, 70 or beyond. We also speak to the incredible Mira Rai, a Nepalese ultrarunning star who grew up in abject poverty to then join the Maoist army at 14, before accidentally stumbling on her once-in-a-generation talent for endurance, beating everyone, and then setting up an initiative to help support other Nepalese women to race like her. And she’s still only in her 30s. We also look at all the best winter kit to keep you out there no matter what the weather, and we have part 1 of our virtual marathon training guide: this part gets you all the way up to a half marathon in 10 weeks in easy, bite-size chunks. Whether it’s your first attempt at 13.1 or your latest stab at a PB, you’ll be there by Christmas!
