Running Status: Beginner (less than 18 months and training for my first Half)
My signature running style is to be bright and bold I only took up running March last year, and as I found my feet I found a new confidence which is reflected in my choice of kit. I love a fierce pair of print tights, slogan vests and bursts of neon… and nails to match, especially come race day.
Being a busy working mum, my run time is my escape time I love getting lost in my music especially some banging club tunes (let’s face it those days are far behind me.) Also my runs give me a chance to spend some quality time with my husband, if our son is at nursery we will take the opportunity to go out together. He’s been running for over five years and has completed two marathons including the Virgin Money London Marathon so if anyone is going to push me it will be him. We are planning to run a Half together this year too.
My top running tip is to get your gait measured ASAP The first few months of running I was in constant pain – and I was only training for 5Ks. It took me too long to listen to my husband’s advice and go and get checked out (scared of running on a treadmill in a shop.) But what a difference the correct trainers and some inner soles can make. They completely changed everything, and to think I was thinking about quitting!
My running mantra is… I made my husband a medal rack for Fathers Day which now sits in our hallway. It has his favourite running mantra on it, ‘pain is temporary, pride is forever.’ I see that every time I leave for a run, it acts as a good reminder.
My sporting heroine is my online pilates and fitness instructor Cassey Ho She is so inspiring and positive and has made me fall in love with fitness. Her pilates videos on YouTube has really improved my running and recovery and my overall posture. I never thought I’d enjoy working out at home, but she has made it fun and easy.
My favourite route if I have the time is to go on longer runs, that take me out of the town and onto park land I love taking in the sights and the wildlife. I’m also practising some trail running as I’ll be joining you ladies in Bristol for the Womens 10K Race Series in August… so excited about that! So come say hi if you see me! :)
