Desirae and Adam Piccoli married this year in New Jersey, but with something of a twist. The couple love running so much they decided to theme their wedding all around the sport.

“We both enjoy the sport of running,” Desirae explained. “I researched ideas online, such as through Pinterest, and we both wanted to have personal touches to our wedding day. We are both athletes and love to exercise and be active together!”

The couple got married at the Atrium in West Orange, NJ. The location gave them a stunning backdrop for their photos, taken at Eagle Rock reservation and overlooking the NYC skyline. Desirae and Adam came up with the theme together, even designing their cake with wedding cake.aspxthe bakery. “It was my idea to wear my favourite running shoes in some of our wedding photos. My husband had the idea to have the song Born to Run for our photo montage that was played during our reception,” Desirae says.

Desirae’s best friend and half-marathon running partner, Emma, was one of the bridesmaids; the two posed in their running shoes in photos to celebrate their shared love of running. Desirae’s family were also enthusiastic about the theme: “They thought it was very creative,” Desirae recalls. “Both my parents have coached me over different parts in my running career and have always supported me and watched me race. They were both competitive runners in high school and college as well! My siblings have also been supportive of my running as they attended races of mine.”wedding shoes.aspx

Desirae ran in high school and college, and currently is a member of the USA Track & Field where she competes in races of all distances. Adam ran, played tennis, basketball and ran cross-country at school, and is currently competing in triathlons. “My next goal is to compete in my first full marathon after running five half marathons!” Desirae says. “I always strive to improve my race times but most important to me is to enjoy running and stay healthy. I am lucky as my husband is an amazing supporter of my running and always encourages me.”

Desirae and Adam say they couldn’t have been happier with their special day. “It was a wonderful feeling to have all our friends and family join us on our wedding day,” Desirae says. “It was the best day of our lives!”
