Remember the three C's of running life

Fenella Langridge (second from right)

Personal trainer Fenella Langridge led the warm-up at our fantastic Cardiff 10K and paced the sub-50 minute running group. The GB-level athlete shares her top tips for success.

Hello fellow runners! My name is Fenella and I am fanatic about fitness health and wellbeing.

After graduating from Cardiff Metropolitan with a sports degree, I delved straight into working life as a personal trainer. Personal training is great for me as it allows me to coach and inspire individuals and help them reach their individual goals. I have been a qualified personal trainer for two years but have been coaching and teaching for almost six.

The job also allows me the flexibility to focus on my own triathlon training. I am currently training with the Welsh development squad based in Cardiff, where I happily train two or three times a day. Hopefully within the next few years I will be competing in elite races up and down the country.

Talented athlete

I haven’t always done triathlon. As a young girl growing up in Hampshire I got to represent the county in hockey, swimming and running. I don’t know how my parents kept track of me. Being selected for British college hockey team was one of my fondest memories along with running for Hampshire in France. However, my best memory was representing Great Britain in Monaco at the world Biathlete championship.

Many years of experience and lots of traveling have got me to where I am today. I love reflecting on my experiences and using them to help me and help others, in training and in life.

People often ask me, what motivates me, I just reply ‘The desire to be better than I am yesterday and tomorrow, I hope to be doing better than I am today. And in the future!’

About my warm-up…

I volunteered to do the Women’s Running 10K Race warm up in Cardiff as I know from experience how daunting races are, and how you are feeling 20-30 minutes before you are meant to start in terms of nerves. I don’t want people to worry and I want every runner out there to enjoy the race from the very start to the very end.

When it comes to exercise in general, just remember that no one is too young, too old, too fat, too skinny, too unfit or to fit to set themselves goals. Aim for the moon and if you miss, at least you will end up among the stars!

Just remember the three C’s of life… Choices, Chances and Changes. You Must Make A Choice, To Take A Chance Or Your Life Will Never Change.
