Financial advisor Eva Sajbenova lives in Surrey and paced the sub-50 minute running group at the first race of the Women’s Running 10K series in Lee Valley. She also took part in the Virgin Money London Marathon in an impressive time of 3:30. She explains why she’s switching between long and short distances. 

Don’t let a set back define your race London is a very busy race, especially in the first two miles. Unfortunately I took a tumble 500m from the start and fell. I managed to carry on despite the scrapped knees and a sore ankle, and I am grateful it wasn’t serious. It did however shake my confidence, especially since it happened so soon after the start.

It’s very important to not get carried away at the beginning It can be so easy to start too quickly and then ‘burn out’ in the second half. I used my Garmin a lot at this stage and mainly to slow myself down.

I got a PB by nearly eight and half minutes in the London Marathon But that aside, the crowd support in London is unbelievable, there is not a single quiet spot on the course. I loved the live music stations as well, I waved at the bands to thank them for their support. It feels special to know they are there to help you round the course. And I liked the variety of the music (anything from hip hop and drums to classical music and Scottish bagpipes), it really represents the diversity of London and makes the race extra special.

My friend encouraged me to run a 10K My friend Chris is the Editor of Women’s Running magazine. We’ve been good friends and running buddies for years, though Chris is older than me and she blames her age for being slower! We trained for our first marathon, Brighton, in 2011 and since then I’ve gone on to focus on marathons, while Chris now prefers shorter distances like 10K events and half marathons.

I’m a pacer for the Wr10K Race Series because I want to help inspire others  I’m also a regular participant in our local parkrun, where I’ve met lots of great friends through running. To inspire and encourage other women to run and enjoy themselves and get fitter is a real privilege.
