We find out more about why recovery nutrition is so important, and how this shake from Nutribudy uses whole foods to give us all the nutrients we need without any tummy troubles

We know what it’s like when it comes to refuelling after a run. Some of us might not have time to whip up a perfectly balanced snack; others of us might not feel hungry post-run; those of us who love a lunchtime jog might be straight back into work. But getting nutrients in after a run is really important for our recovery.

Shakes are a great option for runners, taking just a few seconds to rustle up and being easy to consume. While there are a whole host of shake options available, finding a one that suits your needs can be difficult, especially if you have allergies or any digestive difficulties.

Enter Nutribuddy’s newest product: Pure. It’s the UK’s first ever 100% wholefoods shake that contains zero nasties and additives and constables the essential nutrients needed for muscle recovery.

Founder Ella McKendrick designed it after her own experiences with IBS. “After struggling with IBS, I decided to take a look at my diet. After copious amounts of research, I made the decision to cut out additives and stick to eating only whole foods where possible. I wanted to provide a nutritious and convenient option for those who want the benefit of shakes but who cannot consume or don’t want to consume artificial additives.”

Pure is high in fibre, protein, and slow-release carbs – all of which are essential for muscle recovery. It doesn’t contain any of the major allergens and has been designed to be soft on the stomach, so it’s ideal for those with IBS or who need to avoid ingredients that contain lactose or soy. Plus, it’s suitable for pregnant or breastfeeding women.

It comes in two flavours, and doesn’t contain any extra flavouring: all the tastes come from the foods themselves:

  • Cocoa & Coconut
Flavoured with cocoa powder, coconut flakes and ginger powder
  • Blueberry Matcha Green Tea
Flavoured only with wild blueberry powder, matcha green tea and ginger powder

OK, so now we know Pure is kinder to our stomach – and it’s also kinder to the planet. Ella and the Nutribuddy team are introducing the first zero packaging scheme in the shake industry.

How it works is simple: Pure arrives in a reusable glass jar which is included in the price of the product. Once you’ve got five empty glass jars, Nutribuddy will arrange collection of the jars for reuse, and credit your account with points that can be used for a discount on future products. Sounds like a win, win to us!

Pure is £13.99 and is available on the Nutribuddy website: nutribuddy.com
