Getting high-performance tights that keep you warm, wick away sweat and don’t sag is crucial for winter months
BROOKS Threshold Tights
£65 | Tester: Louise
You will love how smooth these tights feel, as well as the certainty of being kept warm on the coldest of runs in winter. With a Drilayer fabric, they also wick sweat away quickly, so that if you should get caught in bad weather, you’ve a better chance of remaining light, dry and comfortable. With a wide, slimming, flat waistband, they stay in place even without a drawstring. A handy drop-in pocket on the back and mesh drop-in pockets on both sides means you can still carry your phone, credit card, gloves or other small items. You will love how soft they feel with a brushed interior and the fit is snug but easy to move in. Breathable, flattering and an essential winter running tight.
£42 | Tester: Tina
The skirt layering on these tights not only keeps your lower back much warmer as temperature drops, it really builds confidence. It provides just the right length of extra coverage so you don’t have to think about your bum, in such cute and elegant style (not too long, not too short). These are very well designed and the fit is true to size, with the ankles also tightly fitting. The texture of the fabric was super soft against the skin, even when sweaty, and the heat control of the bamboo makes the fabric even more lovable. The waistband was also super comfy. As a runner you’d expect a pocket, which these don’t have, and reflectivity; though this is easy to get around with a running belt. They are such a versatile piece for your wardrobe though – ideal for yoga, the gym and watching Netflix!
PROVIZ PixElite Tights
£54.99 | Tester: Geri
These tights are fleece lined and feel super soft on the skin. They are unbeatable when it comes to keeping your legs warm on those chilly nights. The reflective material is incredible and keeps you visible on the road on those darker runs. Highly breathable and yet insulating, supportive and flattering, these will help you perform in all conditions. The drawstring waistband ensures they fi t right for you and don’t fall down. You also get a handy little rear zipped pocket to keep your valuables safe. The lower leg zip is practical for putting on or taking off the tights. They are also a tight you can wear while going to yoga or Pilates. If you are looking for unique, flattering and versatile, these are the running tights for you.
2XU Print Mid-Rise Compression Tights
£80 | Tester: Esther
Superb compression as ever from 2XU here, but now with this rather delicious Blade Runner-esque print (showing my age there). These feel super slinky on, with a lovely sheen to them, so you really can channel any kind of android you like. There’s an (unzipped) pocket tucked away at the back, which will do the trick for a key and a gel. They could do with a thigh pocket, perhaps, but I think that about all tights these days. These were a little on the short side for me – but most full-length tights are so it’s not a criticism, just an observation from a tall runner! But on the whole performed well: they stayed put, felt supportive, and gave an encouraging degree of compression, so worth keeping on post run to receive the full benefit.
SUNDRIED Escape Thermal Legging
£50 | Tester: Caroline
These thermal leggings are an exceptional buy for your winter wardrobe, being both flattering in fit and supremely comfortable too. As soon as you pull these on you know they are a winner; the fleece lining is so soft and supportive you won’t want to be in anything else for the whole day. The high elastic waistband is wide so it doesn’t dig into your skin and, most importantly, these tights don’t budge when running. You will love the longer leg length too, which cover the ankles seamlessly to protect you in the harshest running conditions. These leggings could be improved if they had a little storage pocket or some high vis detailing, but they will definitely win you over on chilly winter days or for the gym or yoga workouts. They wash beautifully too.
