Foam rolling is essential but a bit ouchy. It can easily be overlooked in favour of cleaning the cat’s litter tray. So news of the world’s first vibrating roller is good news indeed.

All you have to do is turn on the Vyper, lie on it, shift up and down a bit every now and then, and the vibrating cylinder works its magic on your muscles. It makes some noise, and will definitely alarm your cat, but it’s much less ouchy than normal. It has three levels of vibration intensity and the battery is rechargeable via a wall socket.

Does it actually work? Well, a study by North Carolina Chapel Hill’s Sports Medicine Research Laboratory claimed improved mobility of up to 40 per cent from using a vibrating roller as opposed to a standard one. Plus WR’s physio was seething with envy that we had one before him and said, in theory, the concept made huge sense.

In use over several months, it felt like the Vyper really helped loosen up knots in calves and ITBs. But also the simple fact that foam rolling became a far less unpleasant experience meant we did it much more often.
