Holly puts the new Rincon 3 to the test – is it worth the hype?
HOKA ONE ONE Rincon 3 | £105 | Tester: Holly Taylor
The classic Rincon from HOKA ONE ONE has had an upgrade – a lightweight and cushioned shoe, it's a perfect neutral runner for racing or hitting the roads
The HOKA ONE ONE Rincon is famous for delivering incredible cushioning in a featherlight package, and the latest upgrade is true to form. The Rincon 3’s vented mesh upper increases breathability, with an EVA midsole that offers HOKA’s signature comfort. The speedy Meta-Rocker tech that you’ll recognise from the Rincon 2 has been given a boost too, giving you quicker acceleration. What’s more, these beauties are vegan: perfect for a runner powered by plants.
I couldn’t wait to try these out: HOKA shoes are a staple among the Women’s Running team, but I’d never owned a pair and these were my first. The first thing that struck me when I unboxed them was the weight – they really are light as a feather, despite their chunky cushioned sole. The slim, flexible tongue and little pull tab made them easy to slip on and I had no teething problems on the first run: they were supremely comfortable and fit me like a glove from the off.
I tend to size up by half size whenever I’m getting a new pair of runners, and this was a good move with the Rincon 3 –there was a perfect amount of room in the toe box, which my feet thanked me for on each strike. HOKA also offer a wide fit on all their shoes, too, so you’re all the more likely to find your ideal pair of runners.
The improved Meta-Rocker tech in the sole is evident, and I felt as though I was springing off each landing. Even little old me could pass as speedy in these, and they’d make for excellent racers. Above all, though, the comfort is what reigns supreme, and I find myself able to run for longer before my feet start complaining: the perfect training shoe, so that’s what I’ll be using them for. They’re only my first pair of HOKAs, but I may very well be in love!
