The Earth Day pack has some seriously sustainable credentials
Happy Earth Day! We know that us runners are keen to look after the planet, but when it’s time to buy new shoes, it’s not always easy to find sustainable options.
Today, ASICS have launched their Earth Day Pack; their most planet-friendly collection yet. They’ve taken some of our favourite products, including shoes like the GEL-NIMBUS™ 23, as well as clothing, and completely overhauled their production to be more sustainable.
The key is ASICS’ new circular manufacturing process, which allows textile waste to be recycled into the new products. For this collection alone, 5 tons of textile waste (the equivalent of 25,000 t-shirts) were reused.
Even production of the socklining of ASICS’ trainers was improved; a resource-saving technology called ‘solution dyeing’ reduced the CO2 emissions by 45% and water use by 33% compared to the conventional dyeing process normally used.

“ASICS’ purpose has always been to help people achieve a sound mind in a sound body. But for that, they need a sound earth to exercise on,” says ASICS President Yasuhito Hirota. “We’re committed to playing our part in building a circular economy that helps reduce CO2 emissions and keep global warming at less than 1.5℃. By continuing to innovate the manufacturing process across all our product categories, we can help to mitigate the impact of climate change.”
