Meet the six British runners taking on The Speed Project, a 340-mile relay from LA to Las Vegas
340 miles, six women and a 37-hour record in their sights: sports presenter and runner Rachel Stringer and her team are preparing to take on The Speed Project, an ultra-running relay race.
Teams have been taking on this gruelling stretch from Santa Monica Pier in LA all the way to Las Vegas since 2013, with 40 groups running last year.
Only one athlete runs at a time, while their teammates ride behind in a camper van. Each runner will complete about 56 miles over the course of the race in a series of 5-10K legs. The race is unofficial and has no specific route – it’s simply a race to be the fastest team to complete the distance. You can watch the video below to give you an idea.
The current women’s record for The Speed Project stands at 37 hours and 2 minutes. Rachel and her team are aiming to challenge that record and inspire other women to take on sporting challenges.
