We're busy planning our dream race schedule for next year – and the Gothenburg Marathon is one of our top picks!

In 2021, the city of Gothenburg turns 400. To celebrate this, they’re holding a beautiful scenic, one-off marathon – the Göteborgsvarvet Marathon. The course will wind through the beautiful city of Gothenburg, taking in major landmarks including the King Gustaf statue, the Älvsborg Bridge over river Göta Älv and the former Eriksberg docks where you’ll whizz past the iconic red harbour crane and will also get the chance to enjoy the wide city centre boulevards. The course will also incorporate a full loop of the Göteborgsvarvet Half Marathon route.

This year, some famous names will be lacing up their trainers to run the marathon, including two previous Women’s Running cover stars Charlie Watson (@therunnerbeans) and Susie Chan (@susie_chan).

The one-off marathon is part of the family of running events in Gothenburg including the Göteborgsvarvet Half Marathon, the largest half marathon in the world with over 60,000 runners on race weekend. It also includes seven further events, from a children’s race, a relay and a trail run, offering something for everyone. Over 200,000 spectators line the route and the city comes alive to cheer on the runners.
