Female duo Kathryn and Anya are marking big milestones with the ABP Southampton Marathon

ABP Southampton Marathon has become one of the most anticipated running events across the south coast. With its iconic mix of urban landmarks, coastal vistas and majestic forests, runners have flocked to take part. This year, it’s back bigger than ever, as runners of all ages and abilities get set for an incredible day of running across the city.

Amongst this year’s participants are runners Kathryn and Anya, best friends from Cornwall, who are running the ABP Southampton Marathon to mark some big milestones! We all know anything is possible when you have the right friends by your side. For the ladies, their friendship is cemented by their passion for running – and together they’re motivating each other to smash their goals for 2022.

Kathryn, a passionate runner, has 31 marathons under her belt since she started running, including the London Marathon in 2013, and the Palma Marathon. Kathryn started her running journey initially to lose some weight and become hooked. In November 2016, she committed to running every day for 30 days to meet her goal and then never stopped! Looking ahead to this year’s Southampton Marathon, the 24th April will be her 2,001st day of consecutive running.

Kathryn is also running to support Anya, who is gearing up for her first marathon. Anya is also an avid runner and has run numerous half marathons such as the Windsor Half and London Landmarks. She’s looking forward to the support of her fellow runners, and can’t wait to hear the cheers from friends, family and the Southampton community as she tackles the 26.2 miles.

“Kathryn and Anya are fantastic examples of how inclusive and supportive the ABP Southampton Marathon event is,” says Chris Rees, Director of ReesLeisure – the organisation managing the event. We’ve got two friends of varied abilities and running experience, with different reasons for taking part, giving each other the motivation and drive to achieve something amazing.

“We’re honoured to have people like Kathryn and Anya take part in our events. Kathryn’s efforts are monumental, and Anya is going to smash her first marathon! I can’t wait to see them on what will be a truly wonderful day of running.”
