Contrary to what some may believe, by the time May rolls around in Canada, the snow is long gone.

In fact, with temperatures averaging 16c on race day – this year’s date is May 29, 2016 – and millions of tulips in bloom across the city, Canada’s beautiful capital city is the perfect stage to love every moment of your spring marathon.

Which might explain why the Scotiabank Ottawa Marathon, an IAAF Silver Label event, has become Canada’s biggest marathon, as well as its largest Boston Marathon qualifier.

With a fast, flat route that takes you past famous landmarks, beautiful scenery, and along the historic Rideau Canal, Ottawa has become a favourite for first-time marathoners and experienced veterans, as well as the world’s top elite runners, who in recent years have lowered the course record in to 2:06:54 – the fastest in Canada.

Other than a beautiful, fast course, one of the big reasons the Scotiabank Ottawa Marathon has become a favourite for runners from around the world is the amazing atmosphere.

Part of the Tamarack Ottawa Race Weekend, the marathon is just one of six amazing events – marathon, half marathon, 10K, 5K, 2K and kids marathon – that take place over two days and which together make up Canada’s largest weekend of running.

With as many as 50,000 runners, thousands of volunteers, and hundreds of thousands of spectators who line the routes through Ottawa’s friendly communities, this is a serious running party (a party that also includes lots of live music and a beer garden)!

Whether it’s your first marathon or your twentieth, the Scotiabank Ottawa Marathon is a great opportunity for a new personal best, while discovering the beauty and atmosphere of Canada’s capital.

The Scotiabank Ottawa Marathon takes place on May 29, 2016 and registration opens on September 1st! Find out more at and then get ready to #LoveEveryMoment of your Canadian running adventure.
