The road to Oz

It may be six days and 120K of mountainous terrain, but staying in luxurious camps along the way, complete with hot showers, gourmet meals and even a massage, makes it all a bit easier.

This is, in a way, a new concept in trail running, in that it is non-competitive, guided, supported and luxe, says Chris Ord, who founded the Tour de Trails company that boasts the very best of Australian adventure.

And Chris is offering Women’s Running readers a whopping $500AU discount off the ticket price for anyone who books by 15 July.

The regular price of the tour is $3450 (AU), but for Women’s Running readers only is $2800 (AU). This includes six days of trail running, 4WD transfers, all food, camp hospitality and big Outback skies and sunsets.

The route

Rollercoasting its way along the West MacDonnell Ranges in the Northern Territory, west of Alice Springs, Larapinta takes not just your legs, but your heart on a powerful journey through Australia’s red centre.

You will run through oases, along escarpments, via canyons and valleys and through an ancient landscape that holds the power to defy your expectations, and entrance your singletrack soul.

This six-day trail run captures the mid-to-western highlights in a 120K stretch. But as you finish atop Mt Sonder, Northern Territory’s highest peak, and peer out over the vast desert landscape, we reckon you’ll not have had enough and will beg to run the remainder of the Larapinta.
