City to Sea marathon

Toddler dash and family mile added to the Great Edinburgh Run

The Great Edinburgh Run is to bring a new children’s race and family mile to the event this year. Children up to the age of five, accompanied by a parent, can take part in the new Toddler Dash – a short route of around 100 metres. The Family Mile is aimed at both children and families, inviting children between the age of three and 15 to take part with family along the mile-long course in Holyrood Park. Both races will take place after the 10-mile Great Edinburgh Run on April 17. Entries for the Toddler dash are priced at £4 and £9 for the Family Mile. City to Sea marathon returns for a second year

The City to Sea marathon will return to Exeter on 3 September. The event, organised by Torbay Holiday Helpers’ Network (THHN), will also offer a 55-mile ultramarathon this year, and both events can be taken part in as part of a relay team. Relay teams can comprise up to three members for the marathon or a maximum of four for the ultramarathon. Indoor checkpoints will provide food and drink, and there will be a Festival of Fun at the finish line, including children’s games, inflatables, stalls, food, bar and live music marquee. Entries now open for the Great South Run

Now in its 27th year, the popular 10-mile Great South Run is now open for entry. The fast and flat course takes in the historic sights of Southse and Portsmouth and finishes on the stunning seafront. Organisers are expecting to see 25,000 runners at the start line on 23 October, so it is well worth entering early to avoid disappointment! Enter here: http://www.greatrun.org/great-south-run

Tough Mudder launches new London race

As part of its new Half event series, Tough Mudder has announced the addition of its third Tough Mudder Half event in the UK, Tough Mudder London South. The new Half event courses are each five miles long, include a selection of signature Tough Mudder obstacles, including Walk the Plank and Kiss of Mud, but will not include ice, fire or electricity. All runners will receive a Tough Mudder Half headband and Merrell Tough Mudder Half finisher t-shirt. The London event will take place on 24 and 25 September at Holmbush Farm, Sussex. Entries now open for the Blenheim 7K

The annual Blenheim 7K will return to Blenheim Palace for its 15th year. Taking place on 8 May, the race will take a scenic route around the trails and paths of the Palace, and is suitable for all ages and abilities. The event also has a one-mile race for juniors and a four-mile race for wheelchairs and parents with buggies. This year runners are asked to focus on helping raise money for Sobell House Hospice. Sainsbury’s Sport Relief Games returns for 2016

Sport Relief is back for 2016 with the Sainsbury’s Sport Relief Games, taking place across the country on 18 – 20 March. The fundraising event encourages the Great British public to take part in a variety of flagship and local races, taking place across the country. These include one, three and six-mile running events, 25 and 50 mile sportives and 1.5K to 5K swimathons. The money raised by the public is spent by Comic Relief to help people living incredibly tough lives across the UK and in the world’s poorest communities.
