Fancy a new type of challenge? You came to the right place!
The adidas Thunder Run 24 hour race is a heady mix of trails, team spirit and night-time running. We’ve teamed up with adidas to offer you the chance to win one of four places in the Women’s Running team and make the most of this exciting event!
adidas Thunder Run is a 24 hour off-road relay race against the clock. It’s a great test of your endurance, spirit and mental determination. Taking place in Catton Park, Derbyshire on 26 and 27 July, this fantastic weekend festival-style event starts at midday on Saturday and finishes some 24 hours later.
Entrants take part either solo or in teams of up to eight people, and we have four team places to be won. Each team member simply takes it in turn to complete one 10K loop for 24 hours non-stop, so whoever does the most laps doesn’t matter, the key is that each team must keep going for the entire 24 hour period. This means you get to run through the night while your team-mates grab an hour or two of sleep in our tents.
Camp it up
Camping on site is free and there are showers on site, as a well as a vast selection of gorgeous food to keep you fuelled up and raring to go throughout the night.
You can set up camp either the night before or the morning of the race to start soaking up the atmosphere. Once you’re geared up, your first runner will assemble at the start line at 12pm and when the claxon goes, together you won’t finish for 24 hours.
One team member must be on the course at all times during the 24hrs. Runners must complete one full 10km lap before changing over with a team mate but may run two, three or more laps at a time before changeover. The team with the most laps completed when the clock stops after 24hrs will win.
Run with us
This year, we’re inviting you to join the WR team with WR contributing Editor Lisa Jackson and regular writer Ronnie Haydon. Both Lisa and Ronnie have completed marathons and are no strangers to a challenge. But we’re not looking for superfast athletes – we simply want you to be reasonably fit (not fast) and mega-enthusiastic! And there’s a special twist to the event this year as well. As the WR team is taking part for the third year, we thought it would be fun to mix and matches the genders on the team. One team member from Men’s Running magazine will be on the women’s team, and one team member from Women’s Running will join the men! It’s all in good spirit of course, but it will be interesting to see how the boys inspire the girls and vice versa!
How to enter
To stand a chance of winning, all you need to do is email [email protected], label your subject bar ‘Thunder Run’ and tell our editor why you deserve a place on the team! Remember, you don’t have to be super-fast to enter, enthusiasm and determination go a long way, but at the time of entering we would ask that you’re injury-free.
