The Hastings Half Marathon is organised by The Hastings Lions Club, to raise money for needy causes, and to promote the historic and wonderful town of Hastings. Runners are encouraged to raise money for their own special causes that are close to their hearts. It’s ideal preparation for both the Brighton and London Marathons, both in training and getting big event experience in a 5,000-strong field. The atmosphere and crowd support is second to none!

An event not to be missed

The event is run under UK Athletic Rules, and is well marshalled, with first-class British Red Cross Support. The course circumnavigates the ancient town of Hastings, starting at the seafront and following the route of William the Conqueror towards Battle, round the back of the town and down to the famous ‘Old Town’ and fishing village of Hastings, then comes back along the three-mile seafront back to where it started.

Although a challenging run, the last third of the marathon is over flat land or downhill; the event is for runners of all abilities to achieve their own special goal.

Plenty of accommodation is available in the local area, although it’s advised to enter early, as Hastings has been popular with visitors since 1066!

In addition to being a well-organised run, there is Chip to Chip as well as Gun to Chip timing, Park & Walk and lots of entertainment along the route, with six bands, two discos, two choirs and cheerleaders. A professional photography company will also be taking photos, which can be ordered online. A programme and copy of the Hasting Observer containing all finishers, results and many photographs and editorial is included in the entry fee, plus all finishers receive a famous ‘Hastings Brass’ and a hot drink at the finish!

A 2.5K mini-run for ages 11-16 also takes place.
