The countdown for the Bupa London 10,000 has well and truly begun. The race takes place on Sunday 25 May starting at 10am, and will see over 13,000 runners hit the streets of the capital.
New research by Bupa found that over 40 per cent of runners have experienced a minor injury or a running ‘niggle’ such as sore knees, achy hamstrings or shin splints. While experiencing a ‘niggle’ or minor injury isn’t uncommon when training for a race, these niggles shouldn’t put runners off the end goal. With the right support all runners can arrive at the start line feeling confident about the challenge ahead.
Free running and injury workshops
To support runners taking part in the Bupa London 10,000 or any other races this year, Bupa is offering a unique opportunity to attend free running and injury prevention workshops held by Bupa’s experienced physiotherapists. Taking place in the evenings at Bupa Basinghall and West End clinics in central London, the workshops will focus on key stages of the race experience: Preparation, race day and post race recovery. Runners can attend all three, or whichever stage they feel they need that extra bit of support.
Preparation – 24 and 28 April
The first set of workshops examines the best ways to prepare for a run, with expert advice on how to prevent injuries when building up to the race. The session will also look at the importance of hydration and, as with all the workshops, give participants the opportunity to ask the physiotherapists questions.
Race day – 8 and 12 May
The next stage of workshops tackle some of the psychological and motivational issues that runners come across on the race day. They will provide advice on the most effective ways to warm up, how to prepare for the course, and motivational tactics that will help people make it to the finish line.
Post race recovery – 15 & 19 May
The third set of workshops will explore post-race injuries and how to manage recovery. How runners manage post race recovery can have a great effect on their overall experience of the race, but also their ability to get back to running and preparing for the next challenge.
