British Science Association Launches Space-Themed 10K

As part of British Science Week, the British Science Association is launching its first-ever running event, the Run the Solar System 10K – a space-themed race, at Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park.

Hosted in partnership with Yakult and taking place 11 March, the event is set to be much more than a 10K race; runners can tour the solar system as they run via the event app and bring the whole family along for a festival of space-themed activities.

The event app features Dallas Campbell narrating the run and, as runners reach each planet, Dallas reveals facts and stories about that planet, mixed in with audio clips from the NASA archives. The app also features a 5K training plan, which narrates runners through pre-event ‘astronaut training’ before they download – and take part in – the full 10K run on 10 March.

And you don’t have to be at the live event on the day to enjoy this galaxy- immersive experience. Runners can download the app for free and take part from anywhere in the world, at any time during British Science Week – and all times will be listed on the race’s global leaderboard. To get the full virtual race experience, runners can purchase a medal pack for £15, which will also get you a year’s membership with the British Science Association.

Pre- and post-event activities are designed for all the family and involve everything from joining in a solar observation to decorating space cookies.

Entry into the event village is free and race entry is £15. The event village opens at 08.00am and the race starts at 10.00am.
