Runners received the news today that the Brighton Marathon would once again be postponed, this time until September 2021
Brighton Marathon Weekend organisers today announced that, amid mounting concerns that a second wave of COVID-19 could last for many months, the race would be postponed until 10-12 September 2021.
The weekend marathon event, which consists of a full marathon around the city as well as a 10K and 1-mile children’s race, was cancelled in 2020 with entries rolling over to the April 2021 date and a virtual event taking place instead.
Sadly, as COVID-19 cases continue to rise and mass events become less of a certainty in the next six months, organisers contacted runners again today to inform them that the 2021 event would be postponed until September.
“We are very concerned by the rising coronavirus positive test rates,” organisers stated, “and will not hold any events that could put our runners, volunteers, event team or wider community at any further risk.”
