Run Hackney

There’s no better time to take on a half marathon than the spring season! As the darker, chillier months approach, it can be easy to lose your running mojo, but with a spring half on the horizon, you’re guaranteed to keep up your mileage! Here’s five great half marathons taking place across the country next spring, spanning fast and flat city races to those on the scenic trails.

Vitality North London Half Marathon – 20 March 2016

Returning for its second year, the Vitality North London Half Marathon was popular among thousands of London runners this year – namely for its epic stadium to stadium route. For the 2016 event, the route has been reversed to offer an even more iconic finish inside the Wembley Stadium, connected by EE. All runners receive a free finishers technical t-shirt from race partner, Brooks, a medal, goody bag and even a post-race massage! Early bird entries are now open, priced at £35. Enter here.

Windsor & Eton Half Marathon – 19 March 2016

If you’re shooting for a half marathon PB in 2016, the Windsor & Eton Half Marathon is definitely the race to go for. Hosting the flattest course in the UK, this race is hugely popular, particularly among those looking to run a quick half before the VMLM a month later. The route takes in four and a half loops of the stunning Dorney Lake and takes place over smooth tarmac roads. Entries are now open with a current price of £26. Click here to enter.

Milton Keynes Half Marathon – 6 March 2016

Taking place in the Festival of Running, the Milton Keynes Half Marathon, each year, promises an exciting atmosphere and incredible crowd support. It might be one of the less scenic half marathons out there, but with en-route entertainment and hoards of local spectators cheering you along, you’re won’t be short of excitement. Another great half marathon to enjoy as a stepping stone towards one of the big spring marathons. Prizes are awarded to runners placed first, second and third. Entries are now open. Forest of Dean Spring Trails Half Marathon – 20 March 2016

This annual event, organised by The Rotary Club, is one of the smaller – yet most highly reviewed – trail half marathons on the calendar. Supported by local volunteers and organisations, the race has a fantastically ‘local’ atmosphere. The course begins at Speech House, following beautiful way-marked trails through the Forest of Dean. Hot drinks and refreshments are available near the race finish, as is a free post-race therapeutic massage, provided by the sports-therapy students from Worcester University. Prices start at £21 for UKA-affiliated club members. Enter here.

The Plusnet Yorkshire Half Marathon Sheffield – 10 April 2016

Arguably one of the most scenic and exciting half marathons on the calendar for 2016, The Plusnet Yorkshire Half Marathon Sheffield fuses a great city centre start and finish, with a route that takes in the stunning natural landscape of the Peak District. With a hilly first five miles, it’s one of the more challenging half marathons out there, yet does still offer a fast and flat 10K sprint finish. Entries will be opening soon. To be first to find out when entries open, you can join a mailing list here. Price TBC.
