Baxter’s Loch Ness Marathon & Festival of Running – UK

Since the first race in 2002, the Baxters Loch Ness Marathon and Festival of Running has become a long-standing staple in the UK sporting calendar. A highlight of the Highlands, known as one of the most beautiful races in the world. Boasting spectacular scenery, fantastic atmosphere and a truly memorable experience, it continues to grow each year and as one of running’s worst kept secrets, it’s no wonder why.

The Baxters Loch Ness Marathon consists of 26.2 miles of scenic running like you’ve never experienced. The spectacular point-to-point route flows alongside world famous Loch Ness, starting in an atmospheric moorland setting and continuing through stunning Highland scenery, taking you along the south-eastern shores of Loch Ness to finish in Inverness. The 2019 race attracted a record 5200 runners with 45 countries represented.

The accompanying River Ness 10K and 5K are known for bringing out the best in runners with many achieving a PB along the flat course through the historic city of Inverness.

The 2020 event will be hosted by radio presenter and author Vassos Alexander, alongside BBC Scotland’s Bryan Burnett. The two-day festival promises a packed family friendly agenda with Expo, Runners Café, street food, live music, guest speakers, and kid’s activities.

Reggae Marathon, Half Marathon & 10K – Jamaica

Reggae Marathon is Jamaica’s premier international marathon event, featuring a half marathon & 10K, held annually every December in Negril, Jamaica’s capital of casual.

Participants from over 40 countries race on a flat and fast course, looped for the Marathon. The internationally certified course includes pulsating Reggae Music on race day, and is parallel to Negril’s famous 7 mile white sand beaches.

Many runners and walkers come for the run and stay for the fun and there is a high percentage of repeat participants. The “World’s Best Pasta Party” held the night before the race, is one of the race weekend’s highlights and post- race offerings include a dip in the sea, a short distance from the finish line, and live entertainment.

The event has received high praise for it’s organization over the years, and despite the pandemic, the organizers are looking forward to celebrating the twentieth staging on Sunday December 6, 2020.

Funchal Marathon – Madeira Island

Every year, in January, more than a thousand athletes join for the Funchal Marathon. It is one of the most important races on the island of Madeira and its three courses (Marathon, Half and Mini) offer unique landscapes in the center of the capital. The mild climate, around 20 degrees, live music, street entertainment and thousands of supporters make this one of the most interesting marathons in Europe.
